The Old Road

Old Road Soap started as an experiment. Could we make a natural soap that cleans well, leaves you skin feeling great, and smells amazing? Yes. Yes we can.

Old Road Soap is made from minimal natural ingredients. Lard, Coconut Oil, Lye. Lard is a great natural oil that cleanses your skin very well, has a very nice, creamy lather, and makes a nice firm bar that lasts quite a while, even in hard water. Coconut Oil is added in a small amount to give that creamy lather a few more bubbles and a nice feel in your hand. And because the natural oils are left in, your skin will be left feeling soft and silky.

We use fragrances that are personally selected by our owner for great smells that you would expect from such amazing soap. We didn’t want anything crazy or boring, or god forbid get a call from 1990 asking for their cucumber melon back. Our fragrance also isn’t overpowering. Smell is a very personal thing, an intimate thing, and should remain as such. So, no, someone won’t be able to smell you from across the room, but in close encounters, they’ll be glad you’re there.

Old Road Soap is timeless, classy, sexy, and refreshing. You’ll feel great and smell great.

We hope you like it as much as we do.

F.A.Q.

How long does a bar last?

1 4oz bar should last around a month. Less with higher than average use or with use in hard water.

I have hard water, why doesn’t my bar last as long?

Our soap is made by creating sodium salts out of natural fatty oils. Hard water contains calcium and magnesium ions. When soap dissolves in hard water, these ions displace the sodium from their salts and form insoluble calcium or magnesium salts of fatty acids. These insoluble salts separate as what’s commonly known as soap scum.

My soap doesn’t lather very well

Another effect of hard water, because it forms calcium and magnesium salts that displace cleansing sodium salts, is that it kills bubbles. More accurately, it transforms some of the soap into scum before it can lather, resulting in less lather.

How do you add color to the bars/ What kind of dye do you use?

We use natural iron oxide in most of our bars. Valkyrie (white) uses Kaolin Clay for its color. Full disclosure, the iron oxide we use isn’t harvested from a quarry or a river bed, or even the earth at all. While it is made in a lab, it’s chemically (the structure of its molecules) identical to iron oxide you would find in the ground.

I’m interested in being a wholesale partner. How do I sell your soap in my store?

We’re so glad to hear that! please contact us through our contact page or email us at wholesale@pucksoapco.com
